So, you have probably heard of the increase in green funerals over the past few years. More and more funeral homes are offering green burials which consist mainly of a formaldehyde free body placed in biodegradable coffins, or alternative burial methods such as; having your ashes placed on a reef somewhere, almost like an eternal vacation.
Now, there is a coffin made entirely out of banana sheaf fashioned into a sort of basket for human remains. Some funeral directors apparently possessive of sardonic wit have quipped that; finally you can “go to hell in a hand basket”.
As it turns out, cremation isn’t exactly a great green process, and you may very well help out Mother Earth by donning a banana basket around your un-embalmed self and thoughtfully rotting away into the soil.
Although banana coffins haven’t exactly caught on here in the States, they are featured in at least 14 funeral homes throughout the country, and approximately $40,000 worth have been sold to date.

(I have a feeling we will be doing an article on this very soon at www.greenlifepeople.com. Stay tuned.)
